Color photo postcard of a wooden shack by a paved road. There are some trees nearby and snow-capped mountains in the distance. On reverse: Old Toll House. In 1873 the soldiers at Fort Independence inspired the building of a better road--to further their mining expeditions. This was a toll road at that time and continued to be so--until the 1900s.
