Photo of a "horseshoe" along the L.A. Aqueduct in an open, lined section near Olancha. The "horseshoe" characterizes the engineering done to maintain the subtle drop in gradient as well as avoid the financial pitfalls of expensive bridges. The scar just above the aqueduct is the Southern Pacific Railroad built to specifically service the construction needs of the aqueduct. The photo was taken looking east toward the Inyo Mountains.
