Photo of the town of Darwin after a fire on August 17, 1917. Handwritten on reverse: First fire 11 A.M. August 17, 1917. Mecham garage, corrigated iron from our mill at Millspaugh, corrals, and barns 1876--1 block--next was Black Metal Saloon [1876?]. Long's 3 room house where fire started--a 2 room house and Jack Gunn's saloon 1876. Inside was beautiful big mahogany billard table, hauled in by Remi Nadeau from San Pedro, Calif. 1876 by freight team--16 to 20 mules, jerkline. 2 blocks burned--next house Theodore Peterson's [Petersen?] and back of his rooming house--then Alec Rouna's house which burned down Nov. 8, 1943 and Peterson's rooming house 1920 and later his service station and cafe burned 1944 Christmas Eve.
