Written in blue ink on reverse: 1912-13. Good view of original builds--corner of hotel--then Mrs. Catalina Loughrey's restaurant and rooms--then Frank Carthery's home--original Defiance Mine property--the trees--Mexican cypress were planted from slips in 1876, still growing 1977. Mt. Ophir in backround--Defiance original claims around in back. This side of street 2 blocks burned July 7, 1918--so all original business buildings gone. Across the street up is our old school house--it escaped the 2nd fire--Frank Carthery was caretaker of all Defiance property and pipeline from [illegible date] on to death 1917. Elizabeth L.
