Photo taken looking down the main street in Darwin.
A photocopied paper written by Elizabeth Mecham says: Looking up Main Street 1916 before 2 blocks burned first fire Aug. 17, 1917. On right part of original barns 1876, street, then Black Metal Saloon--Henry Heitman's--then locust tree by water trough--now where Theo. Peterson's [Petersen?] cafe and garage is--next Alex Rouna's house--burned down Nov. 8, 1943. Tent above where the Green house is that Enar and Bee Peterson [Petersen?] built onto. On left side of street behind fence is the house built 1877 by McClouds and bought by Charles and Mattie Long 1905--later married Domingo Etcharren. This house is where 2nd fire started by gas explosion. Next original store built 1876--at this time owned by Mamie Reynolds--then across the street the original hotel--owend by Domingo Etcharren--then 3 original stores--restaurant, saloon at time of fire owend by Mrs. Catalina Loughrey and was an eating house and rooms rented, your house on their lot. Then Frank Carthery's home and on corner a cellar--Out Post now on these lots, on left Bradford's house--one of the 2 originals left and old saloon house. 2 blocks burned in this second fire.
