Caption (in both English and Japanese: Acting upon the request of Dr. Emerson of California Institute of Technology, Mr. Frank Hirosawa engaged in biological experiment in the camp, to shorten the length of time to harvest the indigenous plant which produces rubber. He was able to grow the plant through his experiment within one & half years instead of five years which was the normal growth cycle. The auto tire made from rubber produced in the camp is still being shown at the Independence Museum.Collection
