Description

Color photograph of 101 Valley View Street with a yellow label on it with "Independence" and "1" in a black circle on yellow paper. Photo shows a beige building behind a stone wall with overhanging trees. The yellow label with the 1 indicates this was a building moved to Independence from Manzanar after the site closed. Photo also shows the two concrete posts that were made to look like tree stumps, created by Manzanar Incarceree and Master Stonemason Ryozo Kado. These were removed from the historic entrance to Manzanar and installed at 101 Valley View Street in Independence after Manzanar closed. Since the time of this photograph (1986), these two concrete posts have been reinstalled at the historic entrance to Manzanar.
