Yearbook titled, Valediction, 1945, from Manzanar. Published by the Associated Student Body of Manzanar High School. Two photographs of Mrs. Doris Abel have been labeled in pen, and two checkmarks next to the names of Jim Kishi and George Takahashi on the "We Salute" page. The front cover has a hole, but otherwise in good condition.
"In these years of strain and sorrow one may easily become discouraged and think of the future only as an empty dream. If we are to meet the world with its difficulties and trials, we must not let ourselves be 'Made weak by time and fate.' Rather like the mariners in 'Ulysses' we must 'Be strong in will to strive, to seek, to find and not to yield.' So...to the Future with its joys and its sorrows...not to goals that are found only in the mind of youths but to the achievement of these goals this book is dedicated."
A visitor to the museum in 2004, Jeff Ekhardt, identified Maude Irwin (12-3-31), Dorothy Irwin (3-18-33), and Dorothy Ijima Irwin (Haruno?) as his aunt, mother, and grandmother. Maude graduated 8th grade in 1945 from Manzanar. She came from San Francisco to Manzanar because Russell Irwin (her father?) was in the U.S. Army.Collection
