Panorama photo of Edwards St./Highway 395 at the corner of Market St./Onion Valley Rd. looking southwest. King's Pharmacy on the corner, house in center is where Bob Newbre and his mother, Jean Newbre, lived in the mid 1940s, and at far left is the American Legion Hall. Handwritten in black ink on reverse: Circa 1944--the Independence house. King's Drugs where we went to read comic books and where we could get a coke and an ice cream cone for 10 cents. Vacant lot. Our house--second oldest building in town--it was built using square nails--round ones hadn't been invented yet. Barber shop. Post office, which had one of the two phones in town--the other was at the Sheriff's office. Cafe. General store, dry goods/groceries. Town hall.
