Description

B/w photo of a bucket suspended high in the air. Salt flats in distance. Lable says: "Temporary double-cable reversible tramway (jigbaack) used to trasport construction materials and machinery for salt tram during construction. Roads were impossible to construct on the eastern slope of the Inyo Mountains. Construction materials were hauled to the summit and lowered down the eastern slope or were hauled into Saline Valley and hoisted up the mountainside. Here a jigback is being used to haul supplies from Chuckwalla Hollow, between structures 4 and 5, to Control Station No. 1. Saline Valley and the tramline is visible in the background."
