Photo of the Millspaugh mining camp taken from the hillside up Shepherd's Canyon looking down. The mill, post office, cook tent, assay office, and blacksmith shop are visible. There are several people standing around. Written in ink on edges of photo: along bottom "Millspaugh, Inyo Co. Calif., 1908 [date crossed out and replaced with 1907]," and along right side, "root celler."
Caption on album page: 2nd mill and cynide plant. Mill reubilt 1903-4 [dates crossed out and replaced with 1902-3]. Millspaugh, Mama, 1907, Erwin, Bess, Stout.
Written in blue and black ink on reverse: Mama going down the road "Wolf" scratching, Will Erwin, Bess, and Stout. This is the second mill and cynide plant built 1904. "Stout and Erwin" were prospectors and miners--worked for us several months--very fine men and far above the average miner. "Stout and Erwin" were awfully nice fellows--far above the average miner or prospector. They drove into camp one evening--went to work next day and were with us for months--both good miners too. Stout had a fine camera and took many pictures--hand an extra hourse tied behind the wagon as well built sorrel with the awful name of "Pearl." I rode her a lot that summer of 1907. This was shortly after Grandma Marshall died JUly 4, 1907. Looking south down Shepherd's Cnayon, Argus Peak in far distance. The cloudburst in 1905 filled in the back of the store and etc. Grandma Marshall and I were in camp alone all that summer.Collection
