Photo of the Millspaugh mining camp in 1908. It shows the stamp mill and several other structures, including white canvas tents. The residents of Millspagh are standing around in front of buildings or in the dirt road for the photo. There is an "X" in red ink on the hillside on the upper right marking the location of the Yellow Metal Mine.
There is extensive writing on the reverse.
Top left in pencil: Millspaugh 1908, boarding house, Lonnie Lee and miner by tents, Madeliene Lally and Yokoum at wall (teamster), miner, Mona (dog), Jessie N. Fowzer, Al Millspaugh, Chauncey Lally (8 yrs. old), and Mrs. Lally, later Mrs. Lonnie Lee.
Top right in pencil: Yellow Metal shaft and dump just below summit of rocks on right corner of picture and shows "sled" road down to our grade which goes on around and up to K.P.C. shaft.
Middle left in blue ink: Store, assay office, big cactus wood pile.
Middle center in blue ink: 2 1,200 pd. stamps. First mill of bat and boards. Mill 2 1,200 pd. stamps, concentrating tables, burned down 1902 April. 2nd mill, cynide plant added, red corrugated iron, stamps and block (battery block) were not damaged in fire and used again in 2nd mill.
Middle right in pencil: Madeleine Lally by well, 6 yrs. old. Flat rock with benchmark 6,157' altitude (1906) just below well.
Bottom left in pencil: Grade from summit on left above tent. Road at right corner of corral down Shepherd's Canyon--sharp pitch just below corral and joins old original road from summit down sharply into canyon to Ballarat.
Bottom right in pencil: Where canyon forks above store the one to right leads to Last Chance. One on left ends a short way up and trail continues to pinons 2 miles up. Road on right ends at Last Chance and trail goes on up to pinions and view down to Panamint Valley.Collection
