Keeler and Mt. WhitneyEntry/Object ID
2024.0.7Description
Photo postcard of the town of Keeler looking west towards the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The A. T. Smith store is visible with a Levi Strauss and Co. advertisement on the side. There appears to be a few boxcars in the center on railroad track, and it looks like the Keeler Station may be the building in the center-left. Someone has made two marks on the photo: a "+" above a two story building and a checkmark above a mountain peak. There are a few water spots or discoloration spots on the photo.
It was written from Minnie [Brooks] to Mary [Singlaub], but never mailed. In black ink she wrote, "[checkmark] = Mt. Whitney, + = Hotel I stay at when coming on the stage. How is your collection coming on. Minnie."
This postcard was likely written in 1908 as Mary Singlaub and her parents and brother John moved to the Owens Valley in 1909.
[Is that really Mt. Whitney? I think she has the wrong peak.]
