Description

Color photo postcard of desert with red cinder mountain and cliffside. Label on reverse says, "Along Highway 6 near Little Lake, California, some of the Mojave Desert's most striking scenery can be seen--the results of ancient volcanic action, violent earthquakes, and years of erosion. Volcanic action marked the area with distinctive piles of black lava rock and deposits of red volcanic ash. The gorge shown here was carved down by the Owens River in the days when it emptied water from Owens Lake into China Lake. In the distance is the snowcapped Sierra Range where it towers above the community of Olancha." Another Mojave Desert Scene by Chris Cards. P24611
