Desert grown. The first tire to be made using guayule, a rubber obtained from a desert shrub, comes off Goodyear's production line in Topeka, Kan., recently. Nearly 1,900 pounds of guayule was used to replace natural tree rubber to make this 5,000 pound, 10 foot diameter tire for earthmoving equipment. It will be tested at a proving ground in Texas.Collection
