Photo of a train accident about five miles north or Cartago at Ash Creek (around 17 miles south of Lone Pine that occured on 11/26/1926.
Information from Claude Drew: Heavy rain storm for about four days. Morning after Thanksgiving 1926 approximately 7AM filled aqueduct up. Luke McCoy there on horse about five miles to Cottonwood Gate to phone. Mr. Claude Drew headed on foot to Ashwood Creek to flag the train but didn't make it in time. Could see track washed out but couldn't get to train in time. Washed out 700-800 feet of aqueduct. Killed engineer (maybe).
