Collection of seven photos of the Death Valley area from 1905-1909. Photos were taken by the donor, George Cook.
A617.18--Harrisburg Camp. Shorty Harris' mine (Emigrant Springs restaurant moved up there). May 1908. Part of old mill left there [illegible 1957]. Shorty Harris and Pete Auguerreberry were partners. Shorty wanted to sell. Pete did not want to sell, so they divided the hill. Shorty took south half and Pete took the north half. Shorty got a thousand dollars when his share was sold. [Titled "Harrisburg Camp, May 1908."]
A617.19--Tommy Floss perished in Death Valley in August 1909. (Left to right Frank Thissie, Dr. McDonald, Frank Theyer [Fluger?], Casey, Jimmie, McConnal, Fred Heathe, Henry Sellers, Dick Hibbard (Hibbard found body).
A617.20--Tommy Floss perished with Emery Bodge in August 1909 in Death Valley down by Black Point. (Bodies found in September)
A617.21--Smith Brothers 1905 leaving for north end of Funeral Range in Death Valley. Prospecting train.
A617.22--Mr. George Cook's first trip, Sept. 1906, across Death Valley. At Black Point (north end of Panamint Range) were Emery Bodge and Tommy Floss perished. Wagon broke front wheel on fifth day. "Took us two days to get to Stovepipe Springs on the east side of valley and two days to Black Point. The morning of fifth day at 9 o'clock broke down. We got to Emigrant Springs at six o'clock in the evening." (See other picture. Information Geo. Cook, Lone Pine, Calif. April 10, 1957.)
A617.23--2. Geo. Cook and Joe Johnson arrived at Emigrant Springs with the front wheel and one hind wheel, a bale of hay, a sack of barley, and Geo. Cook's bed. September 1906. (Geo. Cook on right)
A617.24--George Cook at Stovepipe Springs on the east side of Death Valley. Cook walked from Skidoo to Beatty, 65 miles and was on way back to Skidoo when this picture was taken in January 1907. (Cook house. Notice vent over range next to the stove pipe. Meals were served here.)Collection
