Description

Small mounted studio portrait of a man identified as Robert "Bob" Morrison, a Benton merchant. He is the man for whom Mt. Morrison near Convict Lake is named. He was killed on 09/23/1871 while he was acting as member of a posse pursuing escaped convicts from the Nevada State Penitentiary. The photographer was G. D. Morse of San Francisco and the photo was given his ID #7099. The photographer's name is impressed on the photo itself in lower right corner, as well as being printed on the reverse in a reddish ink. There are lots of notes on the reverse including one from Elodie Drew. Someone has also written "Allie McGee" in pencil on the reverse--unsure what the connection is.
