Bond no. 819 issued by the Death Valley Railroad Company for 100 pounds sterling with the principal due March 1, 1924. Attached on a separate page are 20 coupons to redeem the interest biannually (March and September) worth two pounds, ten shillings each. The first interest payout was in September 1914. It is signed by Francis Marion Smith (AKA Borax Smith), the President of the DVRR. None of the coupons have been redeemed.
The Death Valley Railroad formally opened on December 1, 1914 and was abandoned on March 15, 1931. It connected the Biddy McCarty Mine with the Tonopah & Tidewater Railroad at Horton, a distance of 17 miles.Collection
