Commission document for J. L. Callison, March 1882. It is signed by John. H. Kinkead, Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the military forces of the state of Nevada, J. W. Adams, Adjutant General of the Nevada State Militia, and Jasper Babcock, Secretary of State. It is signed on the back by J. L. Callison and E. B. Cushman, Notary Public.
"United States of America the State of Nevada. To all to whom these presents shall come, greeting: Know ye, that whereas J. Callison a citizen of Esmeralda County was duly elected on the 20th day of March A.D. 1882, First Lieutenant of Company "H" a duly organized Company in the FIrst Brigade, First Division, Nevada State Militia, and in accordance with the Constitution and By-Laws governing said Company. Now, therefore I, J. H. Kinkead, Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Military Forces of the State of Nevada, by the authority in me vested, do, by these presents, Commission him, the said J. L. Callison 1st Lieutenant of said Company "H" for the term prescribed by law. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused to be affixed the Great Seal of the State of Nevada. Done at Carson City, this 27th day of March in the year of our Lord, One Thousand Eight Hundred and Eighty-Two."
It has the Great Seal of the State of Nevada in gold in the lower left. In the lower right is the seal of the Adjutant General of the State of Nevada, which is gold on top of red. When flipped over, in the lower left corner is the stamp of E. B. Cushman, Notary Public in Esmeralda Co., NV.
