Copy of a diagram titled, "Ground Plan of Camp Independence, Cal." This ground plan was made in 1872.
There are extensive notes written in pencil on reverse: Ground Plan of Camp Independence. The restoration portrayed was in 1872 following the earthquake of March 26, 1872. Only the Commanding Officer's house and Hospital exist today and they were moved into Independence in 1883. The top three buildings are Surgeon, Commanding Officer, Lieutenant's. The left buildings are Guard House, Store House, Carpenter, and Blacksmith. The buildings are right are Post School, Hospital, Laundress quarters, and Laundry. At the south end are Barrack Room with Library and Orderly's quarters, Messhall and Kitchen, a Bakery, Sink, Stable, Corral, Shed, and Company Garden.
