Sheepherder Alfred Giraud standing next to a silo at the Schober Ranch, formerly the Roberts Ranch, in Round Valley, February 1965. The silo, built from Bishop Tuff quarried from the volcanic tablelands nearby, was purported to be the oldest silo west of the Mississippi River. The silo, as pictured here, is in its more original state. Later on it was allegedly dismantled or partially demolished by LADWP, whose land the silo and the Schober Ranch sat on.
