Description

Machine excavation for covered conduit section of aqueduct near Mojave, California. Photo shows the shadows of two men in the lower right corner, a deep channel being excavated, and piles of dirt on both sides. It is an Austin Excavator used to excavate the covered conduit section of the Los Angeles Aqueduct running through the Mojave Desert from Haiwee Reservoir to Fairmont Reservoir, a distance of 135 miles. [source?] Stamped in black ink on reverse with Dept. of Water & Power stamp and photograph/negative number H-10. Stamped in green ink on reverse with "a photographic copy by Merge Studios" and an LA address. Written in red ink on reverse: Sec. I - No. 10 - Page 68.
