Copy of a photo of a group of seven men sitting with their backs against the wall of yucca tree posts. It is labeled, "Our Indian friends" and below the men are identified from left to right: Happy Jack, George Gregory, Alf [Faulkner], Mike [Hanson], Milo [Mecham], Old George, and Logan.
Handwritten in blue ink on reverse: Left to right: "Happy Jack" (Panamint Valley), 2nd George Gregory "Coso," Alf Faulkner, Mike Hanson, Milo Mecham, George Hanson, Logan Hanson--Mike's oldest son. I took the picture as the "boys" talked over where to go next to round up theirs and ours horses...leaning against the yucca fence of corral. The pipe is some of original of 1876 days at the Junction. Al Faulkner was a friend visiting us--all new and exciting for him so we let him drive the mules and wagon! Logan still a little shy of camera. 19 yrs.--born Feb 5, 1897. For the museum to keep, 1-19-1978.
This photo was included with letter 1955.912.41a and is mentioned in manuscript 1995.912.25b, in which Elizabeth Mecham writes of this photo: I took the enclosed picture as they sat against the yucca tree posts of the corral at the Junction May 1916--"talking it over." "Happy Jack" was a "cousin" of Mike's--as close as they figured relationship--George Gregory (Coso Indian) helped that time--next is a friend who was visiting us, Alf Faulkner. We put him--a "green horn" to driving the team and wagon with camping equipment etc. Next is Mike and my husband Milo--then George and Mike's son Logan--still camera shy (evil eye).
The photo is also mentioned in letter 1955.912.67 where Elizabeth Mecham writes about the process/experience of rounding up and branding horses in more detail.Collection
