Photo of a man branding a horse while two other men look on from the background. They appear to be in a corral.
Handwritten in blue ink on reverse: [Darwin?] Junction May 1916. George Gregory, "Indian" George Hanson, Mike Hanson putting his "M" [brand] on a yearling. Museum to keep 1/18/1978. (Mike's crippled right knee.)
This photo was included with manuscript 1955.912.41a and is mentioned in manuscript 1995.912.25b, in which Elizabeth Mecham writes of this photo: At the time Mike was branding the colt his leg was in bad shape---but he rode fast and hard just the same as we gathered the horses--from head of Mt. Spring Canyon and towards Cole Springs--wherever the horses ran wild and free!
In correspondence with Charles Irwin (1955.912.41a), Elizabeth Mecham writes that she "took this photo in 1916 when we were rounding up their horses and ours and branding in the Junction corral."
The photo is also mentioned in letter 1955.912.67, in which Elizabeth Mecham clarifies, "So the picture shows Panamint George standing, George Gregory holding the colt's head, and Mike putting his "M" on the colt's left hip."Collection
