Founding member Emmie H. Parsons was The Ebell's first librarian and curator. According to the 1894 by-laws, the "Curator and Librarian shall have charge of all the books, papers, and other property belonging to the Society." A library committee was established in 1897 with the following goal: "We hope to have a fine library of music, and reference books now greatly needed, but beyond the resources of the Society at present." By 1936, the library held 3,643 books.Collection
