Scope and Content

The Ebell Magazine, Volume 1, Number 2 published in November 1927. Contents include frontispiece of Mrs. Charles N. Flint, the President's Dedicatory Message from Mrs. William Read, Noted Artists on November Program, Departments, Ebell Juniors, The Book Page, Applications for Membership, and Club Notes. Includes articles on the new building, "Robinson Jeffers, The Poet's Poet" by Frederica de Laguna, the Los Angeles Museum Chinese art exhibit by E. H. Furman, guest speaker Miss Helen Louise Stubbs, the "Gay Nineties Fashion Show," the Department of Commerce, and the art exhibit of Alexis M. Podchernikoff. The Ebell Juniors section features a photo of Miss Louise Ley. Advertisements appear throughout the magazine.

Context

The Ebell Magazine ran from October 1927 to December 1934. Previous issues of the Ebell from 1903 to 1927 were printed as small pamphlets called Bulletins. In January 1935, the Ebell returned to the condensed Bulletin format. Masthead reads: "Ebell is the official publication of The Ebell of Los Angeles and is published monthly by the publication division of Hal Horne and Company of Los Angeles, Calif. Editorial and Business offices, 204 Pacific National Bank Bldg., Los Angeles, Calif. EBELL is restricted to members of The Ebell of Los Angeles and is not for sale at news stands."
