Meeting minutes from the Executive Committee. Items include 20 minutes books of handwritten records, 1 Rulings book, and 1 set of Resolutions from a binder.

Context

According to the 1984 By-Laws, Article I, the officers and committee chairs of The Ebell constituted the Executive Committee. The officers consisted of a president, five vice-presidents, a corresponding secretary, a recording secretary, a treasurer, a curator and librarian, and a critic and parliamentarian. The six Standing Committees were Ways and Means and Finance, Building and Rooms, Printing and Publication, Lecture, Reception and Entertainments, and Membership and Ethics. The Executive Committee controlled the business and funds, authorized the formation of Sections and appointment of curators, and reported all matters of general interest to the Society. In 1897, the By-Laws, Article III states that the officers with its board of seven directors (one of whom shall be the President) shall constitute the Executive Committee. Article IV states the Board of Directors shall consider and control all permanent matters, appoint their own secretary, and resolutions passed by the Directors were handed in writing to the Executive Committee to be acted upon and entered into the minutes. The Executive Committee arranged and controlled the current affairs, received reports from all committees, and acted upon them. In 1931, the By-Laws were revised, and the Executive Committee merged with the Board of Directors into a larger directorship of fifteen. All business of permanent or current nature were hereafter recorded under the minutes of the Board of Directors.
