Account books and militia papers of Isaac Wheeler Denison Jr., 1815-1832.
*Certificate to Isaac W. Denison Jr. from the General Assembly of the State of Connecticut, denoting his rank as Ensign of the 8th Regiment of Infantry in the CT State Militia, to take rank from the 14th day of February, 1817. Signed by Oliver Wolcott, Captain General and Commander in Chief for the State of Connecticut, May 20, 1817. Also includes 1 page accounts for the schooner HERO, built at Old Mystic by Christopher Leeds in 1815.
*Handmade account book of Isaac W. Denison Jr., soft cover, handsewn binding, "I.D." printed on the front cover in ink, 1815-1828. Includes accounts for farm produce, hardware and work (butchering, swinging flax, carting dirt, milling, plowing gardens, etc.). Names include Haley Fish & Co., Lyman Dudley, Charles Mallory, Ebenezer Denison, Sanford Stark, Joseph Cottrell, Jonathan Miner, John Burrows, George Haley, Enoch Burrows and Elam Burrows.
*Handmade account book, soft cover, bound with metal pins, 1831-1832. Believed to be the account book of Isaac W. Denison Jr. Includes accounts for sales and deliveries of goods including cheese, lime, glass panes, sand, pork, turkeys, shovels, beef, corn, cabbage, oak boards, etc. Accounts for work are also listed. The business was located in Mystic Bridge (Stonington side of Mystic), but accounts were held with Groton residents as well. Names include Joseph Cottrell, Asa Fish, Caleb Burrows, Lyman Dudley, Caleb Latham, Charles Mallory, Jedediah Randall, Amos Clift, Jeremiah Holmes, Thankful Clift, Daniel Edgecomb, James Gallup and Elisha Denison as well as the 3rd School District (Broadway School).Collection

Admin or Biographical History: Isaac Wheeler Denison Jr. was born in Stonington February 1, 1790, the son of Isaac and Eunice Williams Denison. He married Levina Fish in Groton on February 18, 1817 and the couple had 8 children. Isaac made his living in the grocery and hardware business. His firm, I.W. Denison & Co. was located on West Main Street in Mystic (Groton) for many years and he was the first merchant in Mystic to place a delivery wagon into use. He died August 28, 1855 and is buried in Elm Grove Cemetery.Name/Title
