Admin or Biographical History: Enoch Burrows (1770 - 1852) was a prominent merchant, shipbuilder and politician from Old Mystic. His son, Silas Enoch Burrows (1794-1870) was also a prominent shipowner and merchant who has associations with 10 U.S. Presidents from James Monroe to James Buchanan. In 1868 he built a home on land formerly owned by his brother-in-law, Elias Brown, off River Road in Mystic. This property became the site of the first meeting of the Universal Peace Union in Mystic before it moved to Fish Grove (the present site of the Peace Sanctuary).
Elias Brown (1786-1861) married Enoch's daughter, Mary Louisa Burrows (1798-1868) in Mystic in May 1816. He worked as an attorney and also served as president of the Mystic Bank.Name/Title
