Description

Photo negative, group of campers on horseback at the entrance to Camp Mystic off River Road in Mystic, Conn, c. 1920. The camp was established in 1916 by famed explorer Mary Jobe Akeley (1878-1966) who resided in Mystic (Groton) during the summers. The sign on the left of the entrance gate reads: "Private Property, Tresspassers Will Be Prosecuted, Mary L. Jobe." Benjamin L. Kennard was employed at the camp as the horse back riding instructor.
