Carte de visite of Edmund Fanning Smith (1839-1864) in his Civil War uniform, c. 1862. Smith enlisted in the Co. C, 21st Regiment of Connecticut Volunteers and was killed at the Assault on Drewry's Bluff, May 16, 1864. He was the son of Nathan and Lavinia Fanning Smith.
