Admin or Biographical History: James Woodbridge (1756-1841) was born in Groton on May 14, 1756, the son of Paul and Sarah Woodbridge. He married Alice Browne in Hopkinton, RI in October 1800 and the couple lived in the north of Groton (in a section of the Town that would later become Ledyard) close to the head of the Mystic River. Although the couple had no children, they shared their home James' neice, Sophie Crandall Brown, and nephew, Stiles Crandall, and their respective families. James was also a slave owner - an enslaved woman, and later a free woman of color, lived in the Woodbridge house c. 1800-1830.Name/Title
