Description

Glass plate negative, unidentified man (see also: 2026.026.018), c. 1902. The man is a Civil War veteran and member of the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.). He is dressed in a blue G.A.R. uniform with a G.A.R. quartermaster sword at his hip and a G.A.R. pin attached to his hat. The medal on his jacket is probably the G.A.R. membership badge. He was likely a member of G.A.R.'s Mystic chapter, Williams Post, No. 55.

Given to Carol Kimball (former Town of Groton Historian) by Bill Peterson (former curator at Mystic Seaport Museum). They were purchased from an antique dealer who claimed they came out of an old home in Mystic.
