Signed by Henry W. Edwards, Captain General and Commander in Chief for the State of Connecticut, May 20, 1833.

Sir,
You having made proper application for a discharge from the Office of Captain of the Rifle Company in the 8th Regt. in the Brigade, under my command and the reasons set forth and assigned in your application being deemed satisfactory, I do therefor by virtue of authority delegated to me by the Captain General (in accordance with the Laws of the State of Connecticut) hereby honorably discharge you from said office.

Admin or Biographical History: James J. Brown (April 1, 1800 - February 18, 1849) married Sophie Crandall Brown in Groton on November 29, 1840. The couple had two children: William J. Brown (b. 1841) and Albert Z. Brown (b. 1844). James lived in Groton/Ledyard near the head of the Mystic River and is buried in Elm Grove Cemetery.Name/Title
