Description

Sepia photograph of the Civil War Memorial at Fort Griswold State Park, c. 1976. The monument was erected in 1915 by the trustees of the estate of Robert A. Gray in accordance with his will. Gray served as a Sergeant in Company C, 21st Regiment of Connecticut Volunteers during the U.S. Civil War. In 1897 he was awarded the Medal of Honor for "extraordinary heroism" displayed during the Battle of Drewry's Bluff, May 16, 1864.
