Description

Black and white photograph of the old District Hall/Court House (formerly the Portersville Academy, built by Amos Clift 1839) on lower High Street, May 4, 1906. This photograph was taken from New London Road looking down the hill towards Water Street. The village lock-up and other outbuildings are visible directly behind the courthouse. The house at 84 High Street is visible on the far left. The Mystic River Historical Society purchased the District Hall and restored the building in the 1970s (including restoring the original double front doors). The society's office building now stands in front of the hall at the corner of High Street and New London Road.
