*Accounts of investments made by William H. Potter in account with J. & W.P. Randall for the barque Congress, 1842 and 1844. The Randall family operated a whaling firm out of the Groton side of Mystic at Randall's Wharf (near the present location of the Mystic Powerhouse).Collection

Admin or Biographical History: Jedediah Randall (1773-1851) established a whaling business in Mystic in 1832. The firm was continued by his son, William Pitt Randall (1811-1850), under the name J. & W.P. Randall in 1834.
Deacon William H. Potter (1816-1887) was born in Rhode Island, but spent most of his life in Mystic. He made his living as a teacher and insurance agent, but also invested in shipping firms out of Mystic.Name/Title
