Description

Photo negative, debris from the SS METIS washed up on the shore along Watch Hill, RI, 1872. The METIS was a propeller-driven wooden steamer operated by the New York and Providence Steamship Line. The vessel was involved in a disastrous collision with the steamer NETTIE CUSHING during a heavy gale on August 29, 1872.
