Research Notes

Notes

From Edith Blake's 1995 EYC Inventory: "Overhead under the Bridge Deck is a lovely wooden spread eagle, which tends to get decorated at Christmas, with red ribbons around her neck and bits of holly in her bill. She was once on the wheelhouse of the side-wheeler ferry, MARTHA'S VINEYARD, which plied her way to the former Steamboat Wharf, now the Town Dock in Edgartown. There is now a photograph of MARTHA’S VINEYARD complete with eagle on the plate near the stairs to the Bridge Deck. The eagle was presented to the Club by William B. Dinsmore."
