Malvolio

Drawing of Malvolio from "Twelfth Night": A graphite drawing of a man with a goatee and moustache, done in profile. The man is wearing a cloak and a pointed cap, and he is carrying a candle. Smoke rises from the candle and the light casts a shadow of his figure in the background. "Malvolio" is handwritten on the man's back.

Historical Note

Note

On April 14, 1892, Edward Martin Taber writes to artist Joe Evans: "Robert wrote me about Malvolio -- he had thoughts of a black costume -- I advised him to choose green. What say you?". E.M. Taber contributed to set and costume design for some of the productions his brother, Robert Taber, was involved in. Robert Taber would still consult E.M. Taber on his costumes for his stage performances, by letter, once the artist's health prevented him from helping in person.
