Description

A buff polychrome canteen painted with a stylized bird design with a black outline and red, black, and white paint. The canteen was handmade via the coil and crape method using native clay. Two lugs on the canteen provide handles for a leather strap. Signed on the back is: "Dorothy Ami, 2001, Tewa Hopi" as well as a image of a pipe and smoke.

Notes

Uneven coloring (lighter on back than the front). Patterns from scrape method visible along edges and handle. Some small chips on the front design, visible in the above photo. Some loose clay inside causes a rattling sound, but no visible evidence inside of chipping.
