Description

Model of a clay serpent-shaped structure. Covering the clay structure are small indentations, faux moss, and streaks of white paint. To the side of the construction, there are several faux trees. In addition, the snake's tail coils up on the left side of the board. The whole model is placed on a wood base that has smudges of green all across it.

Context

Model made for class project in ANTH 3 - Intro to Archaeology Constructed by the Fort Ancient people in Ohio, the Great Serpent Mound is a man-made structure that resembles a serpent. This historical site is estimated to have been constructed around 300 B.C. The purpose of this site is thought to have been spiritually important as many North and Central American cultures believed that snakes held supernatural abilities.
