Description

A small reproduction of the Venus of Laussel, a bas- relief limestone carving of a nude woman. The woman is a larger size, with pronounced breasts, stomach and thighs, with one hand laying on her stomach, the other holding what looks to be a bison horn or cornucopia. The tablet itself is made of ceramic, and is rough to the touch, with a small hole in the back side.

Context

The figure of the woman, and the horn are considered important symbols in the study of Paleolithic art. Both may symbolize fertility and prosperity or have religious connotations.
