Context

The Temple of Kukulkan, also referred to as El Castillo, is a Mesoamerican step-pyramid which was constructed between the 8th and 12th centuries AD and can be found at the historical site of Chichen Itza, Mexico. This temple was built to be used as a solar calendar and serves as an example off the complex Mayan understanding of astronomy. In addition to this, the pyramid also served as a site of ritualistic importance to the Mayan people.
