Working museum display showing original design of Kinraide Coil with what would become known as the "quenched" spark gap. The gap consists of two copper plates, 6" and 5.75" in diameter separated 0.010". A copper jug of water sitting on the top plate helps to keep the spark gap cool. Kinraide patented the gap in 1898 and it eventually received credit in Germany for the original design of what would later be known as the "Telefunken" gap or "Quenched Spark Gap".Collection
