Low pressure electrodeless ultraviolet lamp that produces 254nm and 185nm. Lamp is powered from a radio frequency oscillator in the base that is transmitted through the spring clips which hold the bulb in place. If the lamp does not immediately start, it can be tilted to allow a bead of mercury inside to flow up and down the bulb...the triboluminescent effect of the friction will start the lamp. Because there are no electrodes in the lamp, it will never fail unless it breaks and UV output remains constant.
