Somewhat impractical lamp that was used to light the 1893 Columbian Exposition World's Fair.Context
Westinghouse needed a lot of light bulbs for the World's Fair and didn't have a lot of time to come up with something. He had recently bought rights to the Sawyer Mann company that was already making stopper lamps, revised the design, and patented it. They were backfilled with nitrogen and uses a ground glass seal not unlike chemistry labware has to make firm connections. They were prone to leaking and needed changed often...but they did light the fair.Collection
