Mr. Editor, It is very gratifying to me to see so general an interest manifested in our approaching Agricultural Fair. As this is our first effort in an exhibition of the kind it of course will not be expected that we shall excel either in the variety, the quality, or the quantity, of agricultural or mechanical productions exhibited. It is only expected of us, that we should do as well as we can, in these respects; and I hope most sincerely, that this expectation will not be disappointed. If our farmers will do but this I have no doubt whatever our exhibition will be, at least, a very respectable one. We must remember, and so must strangers from abroad, many of whom I hope will be in attendance, that this is only our first effort. There must always be a beginning. And we should not be deterred from doing the best we can, through the fear of failing to do as well as we might desire, and as well as we shall be enabled here after to do. We need not apprehend that those from abroad, who may honor us with a visit on that occasion, will be too extravagant in their expectations, or severe in their criticism. It is certainly a source of public congratulation, that is so general attention is being aroused to this most important subject, and that these first efforts are being made. We can emulate each other in exhibiting the best we have, and we shall constantly see abundant incentives as well as opportunities, for doing better and better hereafter and when the resources and energy of Elkhart County are from these small beginnings more fully brought out and developed, we have no reason to fear that we shall occupy a position second to any county in the state.
