Letter from Lt. N.G. Gill, Commanding. Co. B 33rd Illinois Volunteers to Col. Bailey Commanding "99" Illinois Volunteers. Letter is dated "Jan. 26, 1864" and he writes the non-commissioned and privates being transferred from his outfit are all good men. He especially recommends Corporal Fischer, Smart and Aikin. Letter is from Indianola, Texas and is on one side of two pieces of paper. Paper is lined.Inscription/Signature/Marks

I take great pleasure in saying that the Non. Com Officers and Privates of my Co. to be transferred to your Regt are each and every one of them good men and have proved themselves brave and good Soldiers by faithfully performing all duty assigned them, for two years and five months, they have been with me in the service, and as such I cheerfully recommend them to your confidence
Sergt. Martin Corp: Fisher (sic) and Privates Smart and Aikin I by leave to call your attention to particularly as men especially worthy of confidence and promotion, and I can most – Sincerely Say
that there are no four men in my Co. that – I should more regret parting with than those. Enclosed find a list of the mens names (of my Co.) assigned to your Regt.
